2027 tax brackets are out
The IRS raised its tax bands for 2027. If you make the same next year, you keep a little more of it.
The short version
- Every tax band got wider, so more of your income is taxed at the lower rates.
- The standard deduction rises to $16,600 if you file single and $33,200 if you file jointly with a spouse.
- These numbers are for money you make in 2027. Your 2026 taxes still use the 2026 numbers.
What a tax bracket really is
Your income is split into bands, like water filling glasses. The first glass is taxed at 10%. Only what spills into the next glass is taxed at 12%, and so on.
Going into a higher bracket never makes your whole income cost more. Only the dollars above the line pay the higher rate. Pick how you file to see your bands.
One owner, the whole picture
Say you file single and have $60,000 of taxable income in 2027. Here is how it splits across the bands.
That is about 12.9% of the $60,000, not 22%. Our math from the IRS bands above, income tax only.
Numbers that matter if you own a business
If you plan to buy a truck, tools or computers, 2027 lets you write off up to $2,640,000 of equipment in the year you buy it.
What to do now
- 1Keep paying 2026 taxes with the 2026 numbers. Your last 2026 payment is due Jan. 15, 2027.
- 2When 2027 starts, use the new bands to size your quarterly payments.
- 3Buying equipment? Ask your tax pro whether to buy it this year or next.
How Kept helps
Kept connects to your bank, sorts every sale and cost for you, and turns your real profit into a tax estimate each quarter. No spreadsheets and no guessing which band you are in.
